Where is the wall?

In this picture taken by Ashley Lopez we see a border patrol agent in their vehicle supervising a part of the wall in Calexico, CA

As many of us already know, Donald Trump wants to “make a wall” along the United States and Mexico border lines. What many people are not aware of is that there already is a wall! In this article”This is what the US-Mexico border looks like” written by Kyle Almond from CNN news he  lets us know that out of the 1,933 miles that the border lines stretch 700 of those miles are covered with a wall.

Pictures in this article taken by photographer John Moore show how the fencing varies, majority of places are protected by the fence and border patrol agents roaming the area. Moore says he drove “every inch” of the border taking these photos. There is even proof in the photos that the coverage goes into the ocean, preventing as much illegal crossing as they can. The truth is that no matter how many walls Trump wants to build or how high he wants to make them, people will always find a way to do what they need to do in desperate times. In a picture taken by Moore near McAllen shows a border patrol agent removing a fence from the border that undocumented immigrants used to cross the border illegally.

For those who truly believe there is no wall at all, another picture taken by Moore at the Tijuana border fence shows the wall clearly and Almond writes “Maria Elena Carrillo holds her 3-year-old daughter, Camilla Escalante, while speaking through the border fence in Tijuana in May 2016. The US Border Patrol tightly controls the San Diego side, and during specific weekend hours it allows visitors to speak to loved ones through the fence at an area called Friendship Park.” So clearly there is fencing in many areas, other photos show where there is not so much fencing. In that case I agree that the wall should continue to be built but only in the areas that lack the coverage. For example another picture shows just low spaces out  bars in the ground that are easy to walk across, this “fence” is located in the Tohono O'odham Reservation in Arizona. This article goes to show how there is already a wall that is in fact built and is sturdy, but it also shows the areas where the wall is not so sturdy or protective.

I believe that Trump should focus more on the areas where there is not enough coverage rather than spending billions of dollars constructing and reconstructing areas that do not even need to be reconstructed. There are also areas shown in the photographs where the walls are different in the same location. Half of  one wall in the area is a tall metal wall but where it ends it is continued with a simple fence, a fence that we can find around the yards of people’s houses. All in all, the major issue here is that many people are uninformed about the wall, they do not even know that is already a wall in place.
